Far too often, we receive calls from accident victims who have been involved in a hit-and-run accident. Unfortunately, many times, they did not follow the proper procedures after that accident, so we could successfully pursue an injury claim. If you are ever involved in a hit-and-run car accident there are two things you must do.

Number one, if possible, try to either photograph or write down the hit and run driver’s license plate number. If you are unable to get the hit and run driver’ tag number, see what direction the vehicle was heading towards. Try to remember the make and model of vehicle and if there was any property damage to that vehicle. Call the police, let them know what direction they were heading it to.

Second, always get a police report done. Many individuals think that just because there were no witnesses and the at fault driver was not present, that you don’t need to get a police report done. That’s not the case. If you don’t get a police report done, it’s like if you were never there. If we don’t got that person’s tag number, at the very least, I could try to open up a claim with their own insurance company and see if you have under-insured motorist coverage to cover any medical expenses, if you were hurt in the accident.
